Chapter1 Wish
Antonio Kaufman was a top-notch jewelry designer. I was married to him for six years, and he never designed anything for me.
I thought it was because he didn't like to design things for the people around him.
Until one day, I walked into the room which he had repeatedly told me was off-limits.
The roomful of diverse jewels made of purple diamonds demonstrated Antonio's ardent love for another woman.
Then, the woman who loved purple diamonds came back. As striking as purple diamonds, she caught all of Antonio's attention.
At that moment, something dawned on me. It was not the room door that was closed to me. It was Antonio's heart.
Since he'd lost his heart to someone else, there was no need for me to stay.
I drafted the divorce paper and left.
"Mr. Kaufman, have you ever designed jewels for your wife?"
"Does Ms. Parrish like purple diamonds?"
"Mr. Kaufman, you've never designed purple jewelry before. Is it exclusive to Ms. Parrish?"
The clerks raised many questions.
Antonio was extremely embarrassed.
I smiled silently.
I knew this was a live show a million people were watching online.
"These questions aren't work-related. I think I don't..."
I patted Antonio's hand and smiled at him.
He was astonished and confused.
I turned back to the camera and replied slowly, "Antonio indeed has never designed purple diamonds before.
"I don't like purple diamonds.
"As to if it's exclusive to me..."
I paused and laughed meaningfully. "I only know that someone else likes purple diamonds."
"Grace, what are you doing? Stop!" Antonio warned me in a low voice.
As if I didn't hear him, I only tucked the hair behind my ear.
Under Antonio's watch, I looked at the camera and continued, "In the past six years, Antonio didn't design anything for me."
The clerks present were shocked to hear that.
Antonio didn't care if this was a live show anymore. He got up, stood before me, and grabbed my chin to make me face him.
"Grace, are you unwell?"
His eyes brimmed with repressed rage. I knew he was upset.
I burst out laughing. "So, on this show, I wanna voice out my wish."
Antonio grasped my chin tighter and tighter. It hurt. I couldn't help wincing.
Yet I wouldn't stop what I was doing.
"Shut it down!"
"I'm gonna divorce Antonio!"
Antonio and I spoke at the same time. He almost shouted.
His voice must have drowned mine.
He yelled at the people present, "Get out!"
In the blink of an eye, Antonio and I were left alone in the room.
"Grace, what are you up to?"
I looked at Antonio's abyss-like eyes and said calmly, "Nothing. I was only telling the truth."
He stared at me with a frown and questioned, "Did you have to say those things on a live show? Do you know how many people were watching online?"
He withdrew his hand and rubbed his forehead. "Grace, you might've just blurted it out. But people may be misled by your words and start insulting Isabel."
I couldn't believe my ears. Bitterness flooded my heart.
"Antonio, you're still worried about Isabel? I just blurted it out?"
Antonio's phone rang when he was about to retort my words.
The second he looked at his phone screen, the look in his eyes softened.
Then, I knew who the caller was.
I held back my tears to maintain my last shred of dignity.
Sure enough, after hanging up, Antonio wanted to leave immediately.
Before he did, he looked at me meaningfully. "I know things may have been stressful for you lately. Go home and have a good rest. We'll talk later."
Soon after Antonio left, the clerks returned to put away the devices in the room.
Chapter2
I grabbed my purse to leave. Then, I realized everyone in the room was looking at me. It made me very uncomfortable, and I couldn't ignore it.
I closed my eyes and smiled bitterly.
In the end, the joke was on me.
It made sense. After all, in every aspect, Isabel looked more suitable for Antonio.
Perhaps, some people in this room did hope they could be together.
A month ago, the superstar Isabel Glenn returned from abroad.
Back then, I was unaware of her history with Antonio.
The day Antonio brought her jewels, I finally realized how much she meant to him.
At first, I thought they were only friends. Then, the paparazzi snapped countless photos of them seeing each other in private.
I knew they were more than friends.
Antonio was attractive and competent.
Isabel was a great actress and there had never been gossip about her and any other man before.
In the end, Isabel didn't lose fans because of this gossip.
Instead, many people wanted her and Antonio to be together. Soon, these people found out Antonio was married, although I was only his nominal wife.
It was unpleasant to see other people say my husband and another woman made a cute couple.
But what could I do? Even Antonio said nothing about it.
Later, Antonio and Isabel's past was revealed. It turned out they used to date.
Then, things got out of control.
It was rumored that I was the other woman breaking up Antonio and Isabel.
I fell into a vortex of cyber violence. Some people photoshopped my funeral portrait, and there were insults and names. I endured it all.
The other day, a fanatic fan of Isabel's poured paint on me. I finally cried.
In that outfit, I cried and cried at home until my voice became hoarse.
What saddened me wasn't the insults and assault.
The gossip had been going on for many days, and yet Antonio couldn't even be bothered to make a statement.
It was like he was acquiescing to the rumor that I was the other woman.
When Antonio got home, it was late. I was sitting on the couch, tearful. I looked at him, my eyes red.
He was surprised to see me like that. "Grace, you..."
A houseworker told him, "Sir, people threw things at Mrs. Kaufman today when she went out. Someone even poured paint on her. They called her a homewrecker and a bitch..."
Antonio's face darkened. For the first time, he actively pulled me into his arms.
"Sorry, Grace. I didn't know..."
Antonio hugged me. If it were before, I'd be thrilled.
However, right now, the only thing I could feel was sadness.
"Why? Why haven't you made a statement?"
I had been wanting to ask him for many days. I waited silently for Antonio's answer.
But he only sighed slightly. "Sorry. I'll have more men secretly protect you tomorrow. It won't happen again..."
I shoved him away and shouted, "Why haven't you made a statement? None of this would've happened if you had told them I wasn't the other woman. Why didn't you?"
I cried out loud and fell toward the floor when I finished speaking my last sentence.
Antonio reached out to catch me. I pushed him away. "Don't touch me!"
Antonio pressed his lips together and said with difficulty, "Isabel says they've been publicizing a new movie of hers. If I explain, her career will be affected."
"So, you decided to let it affect me?" I looked at him in disbelief.
"No, Grace. Everything will be fine after some time. It won't take long. I'll make a statement when the publicity of Isabel's new movie is over."
His promise didn't cheer me up at all.
I looked down and asked in a choking voice, "Antonio, do you know how I've lived these days?"
A fit of warmth wrapped me. Antonio pulled me into his arms again.
"I know, Grace. I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you, OK? Just endure it. It'll be all over soon."
For the first time, Antonio held me twice. But only because of another woman.
I shook my head and sobbed, "Antonio, why are you so cruel to me?"
Antonio only held me and said nothing.
I closed my eyes. Tears came out of my eyes uncontrollably.
Chapter3
That night I was only disappointed. The feeling of desperation took me when I watched Isabel's interview.
In the video, she was extremely gorgeous. The customized purple dress she was wearing accentuated her fair skin.
At a glance, I knew the necklace around her neck was Antonio's design.
"Yes, purple diamonds are my favorite. Someone promised me if he became a jewelry designer, he'd only specially design purple diamonds for me."
Instantly, my blood seemed to solidify. Isabel's words stuck in my mind.
Everything made sense now.
Who were the purple jewels on the third floor for? Why had Antonio never used purple diamonds these years? Why had he never designed anything for me?
The answers had presented themselves.
After I accidentally entered that room, Antonio thundered, "Get out of this house!" Rage was written all over his face. That moment haunted me.
I had thought he was afraid I'd break something.
Now, I understood I wasn't entitled to enter that room.
In his eyes, I defiled his love for Isabel.
That was why I pleaded with Antonio to let me tag along when the show invited us.
After everything that happened recently, Antonio surprisingly softened.
I finally had a chance to voice out something I had had in my mind.
I hadn't seen Antonio in three days since I mentioned our divorce.
I knew where he was.
It was said in the entertainment news that Isabel was attending an award ceremony.
Sure enough, I saw Antonio in a group photo.
A fit of throbbing seized my heart.
But I had to repress the pain. I had a comic-signing ceremony to attend.
I was a fan fiction artist. A short comic I drew became a hit. I was invited to the signing ceremony.
Unexpectedly, I was stopped at the door.
"Sorry, Mrs. Kaufman. Mr. Kaufman says you can't go out without his permission."
Subconsciously, I clenched my hands. I had to call Antonio.
The line was connected. Antonio's throaty voice came. I could hear glasses clinking at the other end of the line.
"What's up, Grace?"
"How dare you lock me up, Antonio! We can simply get divorced. Why did you lock me up?"
Antonio fell silent for a moment. When he spoke again, I sensed anger in his voice.
"Grace, I don't wanna hear you mention divorce again.
"I'm not locking you up. I just don't think it's a good idea for you to show up in public lately."
I gritted my teeth. "Antonio, I have a job to do."
Antonio seemed to chuckle. "Grace, knock it off, hmm? If you like signing ceremonies, I can hold a grander one for you next time."
"Antonio, you're afraid I'll say something that will damage Isabel's reputation, aren't you?"
Bizarre silence ensued.
After a while, Antonio finally spoke again. "If you wanna go shopping, take someone with you. We can talk about the rest when I get home, OK?"
I hung up. Then, a notification came on my phone.
It turned out Antonio transferred 150,000 dollars to me.
The conversation we just had caused me pain. Now, this transfer confined me to hell with no hope of escaping.
Antonio came home three days later.
I had known from the entertainment news in the morning that he was coming back today.
In the video, he and Isabel stood side by side. People commented, "They look great together." Some even hoped they'd never part.
My mind wandered. Just then, Antonio walked over.
He caressed my face and planted a gentle kiss on my forehead.
"Sorry, Grace."
I knew he was apologizing for confining me to the house lately.
I felt nauseated when I smelled the perfume on him.
I closed my eyes. The other day, during an interview, Isabel had mentioned her favorite perfume.
The scent on Antonio was the same.
Continuing to caress my cheek, Antonio said softly, "Grace, an auction is happening lately. Can you go with me?"
I nodded with a dull expression, but Antonio sensed nothing wrong.
With a smile, he pulled me back into his arms.
It was odd. After Isabel came back, he held me more often.
It was as if he adored me.
But I knew. He only felt guilty.
At the auction, Antonio told me to let him know if there was anything I liked. He'd get it for me.
I wasn't interested, and I didn't want any more economic issues between us.
The auction was only a pastime for me. I was hoping to get it over with until I saw two necklaces.
One was made of purple diamonds, and the other had blue diamonds.
The lights suddenly went out. The necklaces shone nearby.
They caught everyone's attention.
"Do you like them?" Antonio smiled.
Before I could say anything, he held my hand. "Then, I'll buy them for you."
Before Antonio could raise his bid sign, the host made an announcement that baffled everyone.
"These two necklaces were posthumous work by the late world-class jewelry designer Robyn. The owner says to be fair, the two necklaces can't be bought by the same person."
It meant money couldn't buy the necklaces simultaneously.
Antonio frowned almost undetectably. I understood.
The moment the purple necklace was presented, he knew who he was gonna buy it for.
As if there was a special connection or something, Antonio's phone rang at that time.
"Antonio, can you buy the purple necklace for me? It'll go perfectly with my new dress."
Antonio hesitated to reply. Inexplicably, I broke the silence.
"Antonio, I want the blue one."
Antonio was astonished. Even the caller seemed to be dumbstruck.
I gazed at Antonio and repeated, "Antonio, I like the blue one."
This time, Isabel spoke before Antonio could respond.
"Antonio, since Ms. Parrish likes the blue one, buy it for her. Never mind me."
